Promenade des Anglais,
We'll set off from Nice, driving along the iconic Promenade des Anglais, and head towards the picturesque hillside village of Saint-Paul-de-Vence.
Saint-Paul-de-Vence
Surrounded by 14th-century defensive walls, this medieval town was once known as the “Royal City.” Over a century ago, it transformed itself into a haven for artists, attracting young painters, sculptors, and contemporary designers. The likes of Picasso, Chagall, and Matisse found inspiration in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, and it’s easy to see why. Even today, many up-and-coming artists call this charming village home, creating a unique mix of medieval streets with galleries, studios, and contemporary art shops. For those interested in contemporary art, Saint-Paul-de-Vence is home to the largest collection in the prestigious Fondation Megha.
Antibes
The next must-see is Antibes, the first city founded on the Côte d'Azur by the Greeks, strategically located between Marseille and Italy. Formerly Antipolis, Antibes still impresses with its remains, including the Fort Carrée, a massive fortification overlooking the harbour and picturesque marina.
Picasso Museum
The old town's castle is now home to the Picasso Museum, and its spacious square is transformed every morning into a vibrant Provencal market. It's no wonder that Antibes, the third-largest city on the French Riviera, attracts so many visitors seeking refuge.
Blood
Just a stone’s throw from Antibes is the famous city of Cannes. Who hasn’t heard of it? Every May since 1946, movie stars have strutted their stuff on the red carpet during the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, capturing the world’s attention. But Cannes offers more than just glitz and glamour. Its charming hilltop old town, bustling port lined with luxury yachts, the backdrop of the Esterel Mountains to the west and the elegant boulevard de la Croisette lined with designer shops and luxury hotels, especially the famous Carlton, are sure to leave you in awe. It’s worth considering how Henry Braum, the British Lord Chancellor, transformed the place in the mid-19th century – come and see for yourself.
Nice
After exploring these breathtaking places, we will head back to Nice along the picturesque coastal road.
