Massena
Our tour will begin at Place Massena. This spacious, bright square is framed by an architectural ensemble with pink neoclassical facades. The main decoration of the square is the Fountain of the Sun, located on its southern side. In the center of the fountain is a sculpture of Apollo, surrounded by bronze statues of Mars, Venus, Saturn, Mercury and Earth.
The square is also decorated with rubber figures of people on high pedestals - thinkers. According to the artist's idea, these figures symbolize the continents. In the evening, they light up in different colors and change their color. At one fine moment, the "thinkers" light up in one color, which symbolizes unity.
Next we will go to the old town and go to the Justice Square, where the monumental building of the Palace of Justice in the neo-classical style rises, and the Rjuska Palace, which also serves as a judicial office, is also located here.
Saleya's chickens.
Then our excursion will go along the main street of the old city Cours Saleya. This street is the location of the famous Flower Market of Nice. Walking along this street we will see the Palace of the Count of Svoyskogo, the arsenal of the Sardinian sailors.
Lascaris Palace
Next we will go deeper into the heart of the old town and walk along its narrow streets past colorful houses, among which is the Lascari Palace, built in the early 18th century. It was the family residence of the noble Ventimiglia-Lascari family. Now the palace houses one of the richest collections of musical instruments.
Saint Reparata
Then our path will continue along the streets of Nice and we will find ourselves at Rosetti Square, where the Cathedral of Sainte-Reparata, the patron saint of Nice, is located. The cathedral was consecrated in 1699 and is built in the Baroque style.
We will visit the Marc Chagall National Museum, built in 1973 according to the artist's own design and the finished collection of paintings, which is what makes this museum unique. The master personally created stained glass windows and mosaics for this museum. Initially, it housed a collection of paintings on the biblical theme "Bible Message" and five paintings of love lyrics Song of Songs. Later, the museum supplemented its collection with sketches for paintings and other canvases and acquired the status of the Marc Chagall National Museum.
Henri Matisse.
We will also visit the Henri Matisse Museum. It opened its doors in 1963, located in an old 17th-century palazzo on the velvety hills of the Nice-Cimiez district. This museum can be called a biographical museum of the artist. It stores not only the master's works in various genres, but also his belongings, photographs, sketches for the decoration of the Rosary Chapel in Vence and the works of his students and followers.
